I spent my entire summers of 2015 and 2016 at Camp Allen, an Episcopal church camp about an hour outside of downtown Houston. I have been a member of the Senior Staff team, which is a group of 24 college students who dedicate their summers to leading activities and serving campers. counselors, and directors for 8-9 weeks. Prior to the summer, we spend a week team-building, then we host three Counselor Training Programs to train high school students to take care of the children who come through Camp Allen. In the fall of 2015, I was one of four students selected to be a part of the leadership team as a Campsite Coordinator. I spent many weekends at camp interviewing potential Senior Staffers and running training programs. When the summer came, it was up to me, the rest of the leadership team, and our management to make the summer meaningful for everyone involved. Many students use the summer as time to take more classes, find an internship, or get a part-time job, but I wouldn't trade my experience at Camp Allen for anything else. Being able to learn about myself and others within the context of a summer camp has been truly invaluable.
I have been so blessed to learn and grow alongside people whom I consider some of my closest friends.
